Building a Start-Up from the Ground_Up the Hard Knocks Way #11

Hello there Y’all.     I’m hoping that you are all feeling fine, and living the good old fashion North American Dream. I was reading an article on-line the other morning and it was about the Rich, Middle Class, and the Under Privileged. The point was that society as a whole has made this Middle Class a group of peeps that are consumer based and they consume (Buy) things simply put because they can, they even go into debt to keep the spending and Status Quote in and around their neighbourhoods afloat. We as business owners call what they spend (Chasable Dollars). Your company is in competition with the Shoe Co.’s Tim Hortons,  Mc Donalds (Take-Outs) Kitchen & Bath, etc. Always expanding. They say that when designing a new product to either improve upon another product that was designed with few functions or was useless out of the gate (and make it better) or make it something that makes life simpler or easier for the kitchen, Garage, Livingroom, and my fav. the Bedroom.

Now the poor and underprivileged seem to follow the same model, as the middle class but run out of money and credit much quicker and easier. They live either month to month (Cash Inflow) Social Assistance, Disability, WSIB, etc. or work several part time jobs and live (Cash Inflow) paycheck to paycheck.

The well off (Rich, Filthy Rich, Wealthy, Family Monies, Over Paid, CEO, CFO, COO, etc.) well now they go about it (Money Managing) with a whole different mindset in place. They keep most of their spending down to necessities and Assets. The only Assets they purchase are assets that turn out more income, monies, bankrolls, etc. Some assets can be payable assets. A Car for an example is an asset once it is paid off but not until then. It is an income asset to the Car maker but only until the purchaser has finished their payments. (Then they just make a New one, to sell. LOL  Business 101) So with this type of thinking and spending going on they seem to be replenishing their funds at a pace that well outpaces their spending habits which we have already shown is only on necessities or things to keep them alive. I can’t count the times that I’ve read stories about old misers that keep their wife’s, children and any other free loaders in rags and beaters (Run Down Cars, campers etc.) because he/she always screams poor at every chance they get, only to be exposed of THEIR true wealth upon his/her death or serious illness. Somewhere along the line in his/her upbringing , he was taught how to accumulate wealth and especially how to keep and maintain it. Now with any luck, he/she has instilled in his/her children the value of a dollar and how to maintain their wealth or all their hard work was for nothing. Usually, it’s the third generation that puts the business, Corporation under because they were not close enough to the hard work (Blood, Sweat & Tears) to build the company in the first place. I was fortunate to learn at an early age that some of the best assets are equipment and tools because they will make you monies if you know 1) how to use them, or 2) how to sell the product or service they will make. This is the main reason picking your instruments (Equipment) are greatly important which one will let you generate income with the least amount of time used to make your product or services. So in conclusion to our story, we should have come to the conclusion that anyone can build wealth and maintain it along with building it further. This is why I have a hard time getting angry with the rich as long as they are not looking or putting me down at every turn because if they are born into it, then they only know (1) thing keep accumulating it, if they built it well it’s like pushing a snowball down a hill it just keeps getting bigger and they go with it no different then I would. So to be poor is some people’s choice. Anyone who can read can make out well in life they just have to Go for It. Success isn’t just a stack of failures, It’s the knowledge that You must continue (Maybe Change Some Things) but You must Keep Going and once it all comes together as You planned it would, well then You and only You can judge how successful you really are. KEEP Going.

I Thank You for Your Time and Hope this Helped You & Your Business out.

BUILDING A START-UP FROM THE GROUND-UP THE HARD KNOCKS WAY #10

The one thing I am having a hard time with is when people leave you a message on your business line their not very clear when speaking. So you miss their name or Company name or even worse the purpose of the call. Why should I call them back or should I call them back they are trying to offer me their services and if they would be helping me to improve my own Co. then I would expect 100% professionalism and that includes being awake and conscious that they are on the phone. If they are making calls on behalf of my firm or our promoting my Co. I would want a very clear and auditable message getting out there. It’s funny small things like this never bothered me in my private life as long as I got a hint of who it is I would be satisfied and call them when I had time but now time seems to be in short demand so I seem to question all these small issues now. A small issue can lead to bigger disasters later down the road and lost sales. If you spend all that effort getting a lead and then blow it when leaving a simple message well what a complete waste of Co. time and resources. I’m in the process of building up my leads , so I am very glad I have learned this valuable lesson this early in the game. Anyways thought I’d pass this little Tid-Bit of info along to all those who’s in my shoes of starting a small business on a shoestring, budget.

Building a Start-Up from the Ground-Up the Hard Knocks Way#09

We have had our website (http://www.otteroutfitters.com) rebuilt and reengineered by a man that has incredible talents that I am so lucky to have found and befriended. I will be forever indebted to him for all of the extra’s he has put on to our site. Now I have the hard and tedious task of doing all of the product photography. I didn’t even give it any consideration about how enormous the task at hand really was until a friend and co-worker said about half way through (1 of many shots to come) that he felt that I possessed a great, deal of patients. I never even thought about it because like anything else I have put my mind to in life, “It has to be done” and if it can be done in-house well for one you save monies that we simply do not have as a new owner and second We are only at our own scheduling mercies. We can also do it in between many other tasks in a day. I usually do not have a problem with any type of photography except, now I’m dealing with very shiny objects like chrome rings & chain, very glossy lacquers and such, these on their own have brought up some extream challenges I’m not too familiar with myself, so where would I suggest you go when your stuck in the mud so to speak. Well my favorite “Fix All” place is YouTube. I haven’t done any photography in around 18 months when I took some rare photos of a butterfly and her mate in my backyard. I’m still stumped by their origin even after placing pics on Facebook yes I know Facebook 1 billion users do not know my butterfly.  YouTube has absolutely mountains of great useful info, you just have to sift through some crazy stuff till you hit the jackpot. For a new small business owner like myself and maybe even yourselves never get discouraged because someone somewhere has been through what you yourself is going through as you read this article. I tip my hat to those YouTubers that just luv posting their video blogs from fixing your car to building a new fish tank, there isn’t any topic that I have typed into YouTube that hasn’t brought up some kind of video on the topic at hand. I believe it’s one of the most underrated, never mentioned, but is the most powerful business tool out there for a new business owner of this decade. I’ll give you all a sneak peek into the our newly designed TouchWood Necklaces about to be launched this coming month on http://www.otteroutfitters.com  This is the first of many photo’s that will be used over time on our Newly Designed website. It retails for only $29.95  Our New Necklace cords were developed out of a 2mm parachute cord that will come in many New Fantastic colors  designed & developed for the TouchWood Brands brought to you By The OtterOutfitters. Co.

Building a Start-Up from the Ground-up The hard knocks way

I’ve always wondered how hard it is to start a business single-handedly. Now I know when people say well my grandfather started out with $96.00 in his pocket when he made it to Canada. They worked extremely hard and must have been tired all the time because I’m exhausted all the time working 6 day weeks from 5:00 am till 1:00-2:00 am most of those nights with a very short nap after dinner if I’m not on at the soup kitchen for dinner hour. I have to believe that no matter how much I work towards my end goal it will it will pay off. I keep looking at all of the things I still need to do and it always looks like an uphill climb with no end in site. I keep telling myself that it’s just an adventure that I chose to accomplish, just one more goal that needs to be achieved that’s all. It just never seems to happen fast enough, though, I have so much purchasing to do, products to put together then the photographing, marketing wowser long way to go. I could take the easy way and just start selling imported items on my site. I have seen the buying and marketing process all my life from my father’s side of things but to me that would defeat my goal of being able to think of and idea, manufacture it as a ready made product and take it to market all by myself, to me that’s an accomplishment worthy of bragging rights, and only few who have done it. Most inventors do not ever succeed so when I do it, I will stand in a small group of men/women that can think of an idea in their head and make it appear for the masses, hopefully in mass quantity. My parents have always been bugging me to do this for yrs now and coaching me along the way for the same amount of time, certainly with not one hand lifted, it’s all been {moral support} all the way, so as we are all getting older I want or should I say I need to prove to them that I’m capable of doing it. This is my biggest driving force also my 20 yr old son needs to learn how in my books, from someone that has achieved it as not to be a hypocrite.  Anyhow very tired must get sleep slee sle.

Building a Start-Up from the Ground_Up

The Hard Knocks Way

Wowser man/woman, it never seeks to (absolutely) amaze me, how much Google offers to the public, or businesses just starting out. What an amazing experience it’s been, for the new comers, like myself and others alike that are cash strapped in the beginning stages of a start-up. We all have great idea’s for new products and businesses, then I find out there’s another FREE way to let the public know about these New brands we have just created. Just as we are figuring out our manufacturing measures to launch them, it couldn’t have been any better timing on our part. Here I find Google is willing to hedge their bets on you, (with “Blogger”) your dreams and if and when you succeed they will succeed. What a great trade-off for both parties in my eyes. I Luv the fact that a Corporation as big as Google, still has the faith in others starting out, the same as others had their faith in them, in their beginning stages of Google.com. It seems like so long ago Google was hardly known and by making some right and wrong decisions they have built a very strong company. They are a good employer and bring the world great innovations at what I would consider a decent price range. We as small business owners can learn a few things from them as owners and employers. Anyways I just wanted to let others in my shoes (small business owner) know to search out all of the resources out there. There are lots of good companies out there, willing to give you some small advances to get you started and on your way. You don’t need 10’s of thousands of dollars to get you started. I’m still under 100 dollars a month for all of my web and e-Commerce services to date and that’s still a struggle at least for now (Hard Knocks Way). As I and I’m sure you will to, get to a size in your sales and production where you will have to turn your on-line services over to the pro’s but in the beginning try to build with as little as you can so you do not have as much debt in the long run. I’m not sure about you guy’s/ gal’s, but I’m in this for the long haul, I want this to expand into a really good Canadian employer and to honestly say feed my pension plan. I’de like to retire in Aruba or anywhere hot, so I can stick my toes in the sand, sip on something with an umbrella in it, and stare off out into the sunset each and every night, while soaking up the sun all day. Anyhow, I hope this gets the word out there that, due diligence is very important all the way through this Start-Up thing. We here at Otter Outfitters would like to wish you all the very best day possible.

Building a Start-Up from the Ground-Up

Well I found out that it was my fault, in getting my eCommerce site to look like spaghetti and not being able to log in. When I was trying to upgrade mapping for my blog so the end of it read .com instead of WordPress.com I put in my eCommerce site name instead of my blog name which are very close in spelling, and now I’m trying to work through the issues  thanks to the good people at WordPress and Host Gator thanks so much guys/girls. I like to mention the people behind the curtains, it absolutely astonishes me the knowledge that IT, Programers, Web Designers, etc. guys/girls have, and the hard work they do in a single day. What an Industry, completely changed the entire world just like the industrial revolution did at the turn of the century.

Humans greatest  achievements where the Oil Barrens, for (Travel)  Industrial Revaluation for (Machinery) Bleach for (Health) World Wide Web for (Internet) wow we should be somewhat proud of our achievements. Considering all of this has taking place in less than 200 yrs. Its just over two peoples lives if they lived into their 90s . In actuality its been hundreds thousands of lives & careers of dedicated people to learning themselves and then educating the next generation so they can improve upon that knowledge, by inventing new and useful things that will propel humans further ahead so that some one else can push it even further into the future.

So where is the future, and who decides where we are going!!! Is it certain individuals, a group of individuals (Free Masons) is it our GOVERNMENTS that guide us in the direction we should go. I do think its their responsibility since they have the title of Governing. What a responsibility to keep all the other humans on the entire planet busy, working, educating, cleaning, healthy, etc. It reminds me of an Ant Hill. Remember poking a stick into the top of the hole, first they send out two or three great big Army Ants to inspect, then they leave only to be replaced with worker Ants that come out to fix up the damage, and if you do it a second time, well then out come even more Army ants and they stay there to watch the workers complete the task but all they are doing is what we humans do instinctively too, keep all things safe and flowing so our society evolves for the next generation . So where is the next step after the internet, it leaves me pondering to think of whats left except peace, world trade to bring up the standards of living so there are equal values for all humans on earth. Why should some have it great and others have starvation. Theres no need for that.  Well just something to ponder I guess.   Have the best day possible. Luv Y all

Kind Regards

Building a Start-Up from the Ground-Up

Wow its been a very interesting few days, I’m guessing its Murphy s Law because when it goes wrong, it really goes wrong at least for me it dose because I’m learning this website, e-commerce, and blogging by the seat of my pants. I cant for the life of me figure out why a perfectly good half built site, that your setting up gos all screwy and starts redirecting you to a page that says there’s no server. Oh and yes I did check with my provider Host gator and its all cool at their end. I was also told to empty my cache (Luckily not my pockets) so I did that also. Oh hears a good one, use a proxy service attached to my browser, well isn’t  that a new one. Ive heard of the word Proxy, but no clue as to what it is or what it will do to fix a website that looks like Spaghetti. Anyhow you certainly cant say its not an adventure, well I’m off now to research Proxy servers or at least find someone else who dose know and can explain it to me in the layman’s terms. I d ask you to wish me luck but I make one of the most luckiest product on the market Touch Wood Key-Chains, Necklaces, & Candle Holders, so Ill just reach into my pocket and Touch my Wooden (Now get your mind out of the gutter) Key-Chain. All will be good now that I have a wee bit of the good stuff on my side. I wish you all the best day possible simply because its only half done. Luv Y all.

Building a Start-Up from the Ground-Up

Wow who would have known that Hansel & Gretel would have such a profound effect on businesses so many yrs after the story was written. The idea of leaving bread crumbs really didn’t work out for those two simply because they didn’t have the foresight to know, that the little birdies of the forest would get hungry and eat them before Han & Gret, could use them, to guide them back to the beginning of there journey. Talking about foresight, well that’s something, you do really need in business or it really dose help to save a lot of mistakes… Now foresight can only work for you, if you have an inkling to what your needs, wants, directions, & topics, are etc. I know and have learned for example that I need to make all of the web page scanners (Google) aware of my e-store pages, web pages & blog pages, but who could ever have had the foresight to know about bread crumbs, leaving a trail for the web scanners to keep scanning your content with out leaving it for another site, before finishing all of your pages. Now one would assume that if they were going on to a site to scan it, it would scan it in it’s entirety. But Oh that’s not the case, I’ve now been reminded that assume, really dose stand for Ass/U/Me. I recommend and commend the persons making all this info available to us newbies through free e-books in exchange for your email address. So technically it’s not really free because your taking a 99-1% chance that you will probably get bomb boarded with sales pitches for their products, but I personally still think it’s worth it because the info you do get, is well worth it and you meet Co. like Woo commerce and such along the way, which in turn helped out not at that particular time but all the same, I did start to use there services down the road. So in a nut shell Bread Crumbs are not just for casseroles but are used in business also. Have a wonderful day and if your still wondering Yes to the fact that I’m still looking at my Start-Up as a larger then life Adventure.

Kind Regards

Building A Start-Up from the ground up

I’m sill hard at work with WordPress and Woo Commerce setting up an e-commerce store after which making several mistakes with 3 different Co. that all promise drag & drop tech only to find out they do not have a standard size for your Stores Header. I thought that was important, it is only my Co. name after all. Well no hard feelings you have to take some lumps along the way to success. If it was easy everyone would be doing it right. At least now I’ll have more latitude in making decisions for whats good for myself and my business instead of helping build  another Co. business. I read this in a blog (thank you blogs) and didn’t know what to make of it until I emailed my host provider only to find out I couldn’t advertise another site that I would have liked to work with. So needless to say among other things they couldn’t provide I thought I’d give what buddy had said on his blog (I will credit him at a later time) and go it alone, with WordPress & Woo Commerce and wal-la. I’m almost up and running again.Anyways to late and an early morning awaits me Oh the joys of your own business oh how I’ve missed these crazy hours. Luv to Y’all
